River Trips & Tours

Adventure Outpost offers two kinds of paddling adventures. You can either do an Unguided Trip on Santa Fe or Ichetucknee River, or join us on a Guided Tour of one of the 60+ North Florida waterways.

In addition to our tours and unguided river trips, Adventure Outpost also sells and rents kayaks, canoes, paddles, vests (pfd’s), carts and outdoor gear and tubes. Be sure to visit our Springs Republic “river boutique” where you can find a full selection of river-related goodies including photos and paintings by local artists, gifts, unique apparel, jewelry, t-shirts, hats, water shoes, books, maps and more.

Unguided Paddle Trips

Santa Fe River   We offer unguided paddle trips on Santa Fe every day we are open (see hours on other side). Reservations not required, but it helps if you call ahead. Call (386) 454-0611. We also offer unguided trips on Ichetucknee River and the Suwannee River. See our Unguided Trip Page for more details.

Reservations Required. Call (386) 454-0611 or e-mail: [email protected]

Cost: depends on many factors. Provide us with trip details and we’ll gladly give you a quote.

Guided Tours

Every week, Adventure Outpost leads 2 – 3 tours on waterways across North Florida. These trips offer a fun, hands-on opportunity to learn about the history, geology, ecology, plants, animals and local lore of the river we’re exploring (a great way to introduce kids to the outdoors). We like our tours to feel very relaxed and natural, so we don’t insist that the group paddle together in a tight group. Those who like to hear more about the plants and nimals we see along with some history and wild lore will want to stay closer to the guide (he will welcome your interest! ;o). But if you are more inclined to go at your own pace and away from the group, that’s no problem. Just be sure to discuss this with your guide so he can give you instructions and important river notes such as tricky forks, shoals and landmarks.

Hiking

We also have learning opportunities for land-lubbers. Hikers who enjoy a bit of education with their recreation can join us for a hike on Paynes Prairie, San Felasco Hammock and other local parks. Check out our Hiking Page for more info.

Most guided trips are led by Lars Andersen, naturalist and author (Paynes Prairie: A History and Guide: Pineapple Press, Sarasota FL. 2001, 2nd ed, ’04, 3rd ed. 2007; – and – North Florida Adventure: An educational audio cassette. (Grinnin’ Lizard Productions, Dallas, Tx. 1988). His most recent projects were: Paddlers Guide to the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail (2009) and Paddlers Guide to the Gilchrist County Blueway (2014). You can read about Lars and his tours in the February, 2009 edition of National Geographic Adventures Magazine and a Gainesville Sun article in 2017 – http://www.gainesville.com/news/20170216/lars-andersens-career-built-on-his-love-for-nature

In 2014, he was awarded an “Award of Excellence” by the Florida Master Naturalist program. In 2015, was honored with an “Unsung Hero” award by the Florida Defenders of the Environment.

In this short video clip, filmed by the Gainesville Sun, Lars talks a bit about Adventure Outpost and his tours – http://www.gainesville.com/news/20170216/lars-andersens-career-built-on-his-love-for-nature
