Manatee Tours
During the cooler months, (November thru April) we lead canoe and kayak trips to some of the best manatee viewing waters in Florida. On these tours, your knowledgeable guide will take you to some of the favorite winter haunts of the Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus latirostris), where you'll enjoy the company of these amazing endangered marine mammals.
Our most popular manatee trip is Crystal River. Here, you'll paddle among the largest winter congregation of Florida manatees--usually approaching 400 animals. As you explore Crystal River and King's Bay searching for manatees, you'll paddle over some of the area's 30+ springs, skim past freshwater marshes and circumnavigate several islands of the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. In addition to manatees, this area is winter home to large numbers of water birds, as well as dolphins, otters, raccoons, bald eagles, white pelicans, brown pelicans and more. At the end of the day, you'll come away with a fuller appreciation for the areas tremendous wildlife, history and prehistoric cultures.Another good tour for seeing manatees is Homosassa River. Birds and occasional otters make the headsprings area good for spotting wildlife. On the down side, Homosassa has many houses along the run. For more intimate manatee encounters, we journey to rivers like Weeki Wachee spring run, Chassahowitzka River or Hontoon Island/Blue Springs SP. On these trips, the smaller number of manatees we see is compensated by the natural beauty of some of Florida's most scenic rivers.
Cost - All manatee tours are $39.00 per person. Bring your own boat for a substantial discount. Reservation required. Check the calendar for dates
